Evolutionary psychology is an approach to the cognitive sciences whose goal is to map the evolved, species-typical cognitive and neural architecture of humans (and other species). What distinguishes evolutionary psychology from other approaches is its focus on integrating rather than ignoring what is known about evolution into the psychological research process. This article describes some recent evolutionary psychological research in the context of the critical debate surrounding the emergence of the field.
